Derek Lucas
Salon operations
Runs the floor and the business at Lucas Salon — salon operations, not the chair. He reads the day from the numbers he used to keep in his head: who is Above, On, or Below, and who needs a word this week.
About
Derek on ops. Kim on the floor. We built it because we were tired of guessing — who was ready for a promotion, and who needed kudos versus a nudge.
The book told us who was coming in.
It did not tell us how the day actually went. Chairward is the layer after the book fills — it sits with the schedule you already use. It does not replace it.
Before, the floor lived in our heads. We guessed who was ready for a promotion. We guessed who needed a thank-you and who needed a nudge.
Pulse shows how the salon is running, then this week’s coaching from last week’s numbers: who deserves kudos, and who needs a word. People lays out each person’s day, week, month, and path in plain language. Goals set Above, On, and Below, so a promotion is a number, not a feeling.
Closing Care and Weekly Focus are the same sheets the team actually completes — in the app, or printed if you still want paper. When someone needs a conversation, you message them from the page you’re already on. Levels show the path, and what “ready” looks like, so advancement is visible.
Derek has been on the management side of the industry for 18 years. Kim started in an apprenticeship and worked her way up through craft. We built Chairward for Lucas Salon first. If you are tired of running the floor from memory, it is the same home we come back to.

Craft & training
Still behind the chair at Lucas Salon. She keeps the path visible — levels, what ready looks like, and the craft that has to show up on the floor, not only in a meeting.
Craft & Training
Kim keeps the path clear for the next person up: what ready looks like, and the craft that has to show up on the ticket — next to the same numbers the floor is already coached from.
New hires need a clear path from first day to confident, promotable staff. We help scope that path around your standards.
Two paths that stick: new to the chair, or experienced hires learning this salon’s rhythm — milestones and follow-through, not a one-off demo day.
